The 5 Most Famous TV Pets

In running a service that offers dog training in Toms River, we obviously see a lot of pets of all shapes, sizes, species and breeds. You name them and we’ve probably helped care for them.

One thing we don’t see a lot of, however, are celebrity pets. And believe it or not, there is a such thing as celebrity pets! You probably know more than a few of them yourself. In order to prove it, we’ve compiled a list of what we believe are the five most famous TV pets of all time. We’ve excluded cartoon pets, otherwise lovable scamps like Snoopy and Scooby Doo would dominate this list, and we’ve avoided movies, too, so you won’t be seeing Babe the pig.

Read on to see who we chose:

5) Rin Tin Tin

Even without actually having seen the show – it isn’t exactly a monster hit in reruns these days – today’s generation knows Rin Tin Tin by reputation. This heroic German Sheppard saw battle, rescued people, and managed to be the star of his very own TV show. He even had a listing in the Los Angeles telephone book! We’ve welcome him with open arms in our Toms River dog training facility.

4) Petey

These days, pit bulls are feared by as many people (perhaps unfairly) as they are loved. That wasn’t always the case. One of the most famous TV pets of all time is Petey, the lovable pit bull companion to Our Gang, aka the Little Rascals. Smart, playful, and loyal, Petey is instantly recognizable thanks to the big black ring around one eye. It wasn’t fake, either! Later dogs to play the part had to have it applied with makeup, but the original Petey (whose real name was “Pal”) really was born with that amazing facial feature!

3) Eddie

When the legendary sitcom Cheers was spun off into Frasier, no one expected it to be the massive, long-running hit that it was. Perhaps more unexpected, however, was the popularity of the show’s little canine, Eddie. Eddie was an adorable, smart dog who ended up winning over viewers in a big way. He actually got more fan mail than anyone else on the show! Some even credit him for sparking a surge in demand for Jack Russell Terriers.

2) Mr. Ed

Mr. Ed may not be as famous with today’s generation, but even kids of today probably know the theme song that accompanied this taking horse’s antics. He and his pal Wilbur delighted several generations of TV watchers and created a legacy that lasts to this day, even here at our dog training Toms River facility. Not bad for a horse!

1) Lassie

There is no TV pet more famous and beloved than Lassie. Lassie was a loving Collie who made a career of rescuing her owner’s son, Timmy, and she did a great job of it. If every canine at our Toms River dog training service were as smart and helpful as Lassie, they could practically run the place themselves! She’s the most popular TV pet of all time for a reason.
